Job Description

Our mission is to help millions of families increase their savings rates and achieve financial security, by applying cutting-edge automated money management, behavioral finance insights and machine learning, while engaging users via an innovative chat-like interface.

We’re looking for a talented user experience researcher to help build an ambitious mobile consumer financial product. Join us as we redefine what’s possible on mobile. John Hancock is building a conversational financial product that helps average people become investors. Our goal is to design new experiences that make complex financial matters approachable and easy. We have lots of complicated research questions.

This is a growth opportunity. You will be tasked with establishing a research function to serve a growing design, marketing and product team.

SKILLS

  • 3+ years of experience working in UX and/or research positions.
  • Experience working on complex consumer products.
  • A professional, positive attitude and entrepreneurial drive.
  • Financial-industry experience is a plus.
  • Leadership experience preferred.

COMPENSATION

  • $115k - $155k

Qualifications & Expectations

  • This is our first dedicated research position. You should arrive with a proven process that is rooted in principles of Human-Centered Design.
  • You will work closely with product, marketing and design to understand the needs of our users, identify pain points, discover opportunities, and test design solutions.
  • You should have experience with basic quantitative research methods. You’ll design and issue surveys, explore analytics data, and use basic statistical methods to generate knowledge and insights.
  • You will spend lots of time with users. You’ll be tasked with designing experiments, finding people, running onsite and remote interviews, synthesizing results and proposing solutions.
  • You will serve as the voice of our customer. You will be responsible for surfacing user needs, fears, wants and tastes. You will help develop, improve and evangelize our user personas.
  • You should be competent in ideation and design communication. You may wireframe and prototype with tools like Sketch and InVision. (Though we don’t expect you to be a great “designer” or know how to code.)
  • You’ll need to quickly come up to speed on a complex and confusing industry (consumer savings and investing). Become an expert so you can challenge legacy concepts and invent new solutions.
